  1. Thank you, Erica. Men need men. And, men need male therapists. According to the American Institute for Boys and Men, men account for 18% of social workers and 20% of psychologists. That means that there is a serious shortage of male social workers and psychologists which boils down to a shortage of male therapists. As a male therapist that specializes in men’s issues for 30 years, I’ve seen the crisis among men, especially with young men, explode over the past several years. I’m always on the lookout to recruit young men to go into the counseling profession because the needs are huge. The AIBM also highlights a serious need for male therapists of color to meet the needs of young black men that are spiraling into depression, addictions, and socioeconomic difficulties at a higher rate. I’m grateful that you are highlighting the need for men to find a male therapist, and thank you for your article.
